Spring Races You Should Run

Spring Races You Should Run

There’s nothing quite like spring; after a long winter, runners are finally breaking out their shorts and embracing the warm(er) sun on their faces. With everything in bloom, there’s always something to see on the run. Even better, it’s peak racing season many areas, and all of your hard training over the winter can finally be put to good use! We’ve compiled a list of fun, festive races across the country, so get out there and shake your bunny tail!

Bunny Rock Chicago 5k (Chicago, IL): If you’re looking for a fun themed 5k and a rockin’ good time, look no farther than the Bunny Rock Chicago 5k. Participants will receive technical t-shirt, bunny ears, and sunglasses, and all receive a finisher’s medal – new this year! Even better? This is an event for the whole family. While the runners and walkers are out on the course, an Easter egg hunt for children ages 2-10, a living petting zoo, and the Easter Bunny will be out and about for pictures! The race starts at 9:00 am on Saturday, March 26.

Hershey 10k Race (Hershey, PA): Chocolate? Check. Roller coasters? Check! Participants run through Hershey Park, “The Sweetest Place on Earth,” and receive a long sleeve tech shirt, chip timing, and plenty of post-race refreshments! All finisher’s also receive a finisher’s medal, and a portion of the proceeds benefit several local charities. There’s no sweeter way to celebrate your hard work than the Hershey 10k Race! The event takes place on Saturday, April 2 at 7:30 am.

Bloomsday Run 12k (Spokane, WA): Since 1977, the Bloomsday 12k has brought running’s best to Spokane, Washington. This event, which hosts around 40,000 runners each year, starts in downtown Spokane and attracts elite athletes from all over the world. Finisher’s receive a technical-blend t-shirt and enjoy the post-race festivities, but one of the amazing things about this race is the price! Registration is just $18 through April 17 and $35 thereafter. Join running’s best on Sunday, May 1 at 9:00 am and see what you’re made of!

Flying Pirate Half Marathon (Outer Banks, NC): Arrrrggghhh, matey! This pirate-themed race celebrates coastal North Carolina’s history as a pirate hide-out while treating runners to gorgeous ocean views. A 5k takes place on Saturday and the half marathon is offered on Sunday; runners who participate in both earn an extra medal for completing the “Double Dare Challenge!” Bring your best pirate costume and prepare for a great time. You’ll love this beach getaway and enjoy an experience you won’t soon forget! The races take place the weekend of April 16-17.

Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon (Cincinnati, OH): You said you’d run a marathon when pigs fly, and now it’s finally happening! This famous event starts in downtown Cincinnati, then heads across the river into neighboring Kentucky and then back into Ohio. The hilly course is a challenge, but the crowd support and entertainment is truly incredible! The double-sided finisher’s medal embraces each year’s unique “Flying Pig” theme. The weekend events include a 5k, 10k, relay, half marathon, and kid’s marathon, so there’s truly something for everyone! Events are held the weekend of April 30 – May 1.
